PROTECTED FROM CABLE STRIKE
February 1st 2005

Fulcrum Connections works on behalf of Transco to provide gas connection services to 140 000 customers each year. To help protect themselves from burn injury in the event of cable strike, craftsmen wear garments made of DuPont Nomex brand fibre.

DuPont Personal Protection worked with Fulcrum Connections to identify the needs of the garment. It had to protect from burn injury and provide comfort and compatibility with other PPE.

The protection that Nomex brand fibre provides is inherent and permanent.

Its heat and flame resistance cannot be washed out or worn away. The company says that Nomex does not melt or drip, It self-extinguishes when removed from the heat source and starts carbonising at 380°C only. In the event of a flash fire, skin protected by a garment made of Nomex brand fibre is likely to escape second or third degree burns.
