The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is restoring the Windscale nuclear site to brownfield status. By 2015, it plans to have remaining nuclear facilities in a passively safe regime. When looking to improve the safety and protection of garments worn in the Post Irradiation Examination Facilities, and demonstrate compliance with stringent EN 1073 requirements for protection against radioactive dusts, UKAEA chose to work with DuPont Personal Protection.

The DuPont TYVEK Classic Plus with socks and thumb loops was designed and new dressing and undressing procedures introduced.

TYVEK was chosen for its high level of barrier protection in addition to being tear and abrasion resistant and comfortable to wear. It is non-linting, antistatic, chemical splash resistant to 0.12 bar, and repellent to inorganic liquids.
