Slip-resistance
December 1st 2004

Winchester Cathedral has solved a recurring problem with the help of Heronair matting from Plastic Extruders.

Due to high water table levels, the crypt under the Ladies’ Chapel is prone to flooding and often closed.

The ‘Friends of the Cathedral’ wanted to extend access for visitors and protect the sandstone floor from pedestrian traffic damage when wet.

Heronair safety matting creates defined walkways and prevents damage from shoes. At the same time, the open grid format allows air to flow through the matting and helps the floor to dry naturally. As it is very flexible and only 10mm thick, the matting contoured well over the uneven floor surface without the need for any special edging.

It is constructed with flexible PVC hollow ribs welded to cross-directional underbars. The etched surface provides high slipresistance and cushioning for comfort underfoot, while the hollow tubes help to insulate.
