DUCTWORK CLEAN CUTS FIRE RISK
October 1st 2004

An insurance services company has reduced its fire risk following indepth cleaning of ductwork at its City of London offices.

The premises include a restaurant served by a kitchen on the first floor. A canopy feeds air into an extract ductwork system, that runs horizontally behind the ceiling to a vertical duct. This duct, contained within a dry riser shaft, runs to the inline extract fan on a small fourth floor flat roof.

Attempts had been made to maintain the grease extract system, but only the canopy and filters were cleaned, not the internal surfaces of the ductwork.

Indepth Hygiene Services addressed the problem. Although there were some inspection panels fitted in the ductwork, the company had to fit additional panels. A post-clean report was supplied, together with pre- and post-clean photos and a Certificate of Conformity that shows compliance with the due diligence provision of health & safety regulations.
