Fewer false alarms
August 1st 2007

Nittan (UK), a manufacturer of conventional and addressable fire detection products, has launched the Evolution EVC-DP dual optical detector, designed to reduce false alarms caused by non-combustion products such as steam, dust and aerosols.

The EVC-DP effectively measures the actual particle size in the chamber via its combined IR and blue LED technology. The company says that as steam and dust are much larger particles than smoke the detector will not false alarm.

The device is the latest addition to the company's Evolution range of EVC conventional detectors which use a sophisticated and highly flexible Sine Wave FSK protocol. This protocol also allows for substantial amounts of information to be transmitted back to the panel at very high speeds.

Evolution uses ASIC technology in the sensors and sophisticated detection algorithms, combining reliable fire detection with a high degree of protection against false alarms. All alarm decisions and processing are performed by the loop card software.

Other features include a 360 Omniview LED indicator on all Evolution smoke, heat and combined smoke and heat sensors, permitting clear and visible indication of the sensor's operation from any angle.
