Smoke detection system December 1st 2006 AirSense Technology's Stratos HSSD aspirating smoke detection systems have been installed to protect Project Annona, a multi-million pound food distribution centre for Unilever UK Foods in Cannock. Daemon Fire and Security specified 12 Stratos-HSSD aspirating smoke detectors with AirSense Technology's Apollo signalling protocol interface cards. These enable the detectors to seamlessly integrate with the site fire detection system. A key factor in the choice of Stratos-HSSD was the size of the building, a 31m high bay storage that covers 41 300m2 of floor space and has room for 90 000 pallets. Arthur Meddings, director of Daemon Fire, says "Hundreds of metres of air sampling pipes were installed to provide full coverage of the building. We tested reaction time to the presence of very small quantities of smoke and it was very fast - the alarm sounded within 2min." The smoke detector has a Perceptive Artificial Intelligence system known as ClassiFire which maintains optimum sensitivity through a sophisticated process of self-conditioning. It is also able to distinguish between day and night and holidays. |
