PROTECTION FOR GUILDHALL USERS
June 1st 2004

Staff using lifts at The Corporation of Londons Guildhall Yard East are now protected by Memco lift safety systems.

Chromaline coloured edges for lift doors and Pana40 Plus safety edges have been fitted to lifts in the four-storey building.

Tony Mannin, group engineer (Lifts), explains Memcos Chromaline and Pana40 system replaced a system that had been causing problems. A number of staff had been hit by the doors and we needed to take action.

The Chromaline illuminated edges are complementary to the Disability Discrimination Act guidelines: for those with impaired or partial sight the doors clearly warn the user, that they are closing or opening as they change colour. The edges sit parallel to the door operating edges and show green light as the doors open and come to rest, and red as the doors begin to close.
