Calls for construction industry to end tolerance
October 1st 2008

The NASC (National Access and Scaffolding Confederation) is stepping up the pressure on construction and building sites by encouraging its members to anonymously 'whistle blow' on principle contractors who opt for nonregulated scaffolding companies. The new facility is available in the members area of the NASC website: nasc.org.uk "Lowest price is still being selected over best practice and regulation in some corners of the construction industry" states Kevin Mouatt, NASC's president.

The Confederation has just completed its latest annual safety report and the figures report that the number of regulated scaffolding operatives is rising and the incident and frequency rate continues to fall.

The report is published in conjunction with 2007 accident statistics provided by all Full Contracting Members of the NASC (whose operatives account for over an estimated 50% of the qualified scaffolder workforce) and details all incidents throughout the year. The Safety Report confirms that by working to the guidance laid down by the NASC, and conforming to its strict membership requirements fewer accidents are likely to happen.

The NASC's annual safety report is available from the NASC free of charge.
