Failing in basic fire safety
October 1st 2006

A fifth of UK businesses are unprepared for a fire-related incident, according to a survey carried out by Croner.

The survey, carried out in the weeks leading up to the introduction of the Fire Safety Order 2005, which came into force on 1st October, shows that many employers are unaware of the intricacies of the new legislation. Two-thirds of businesses admitted that their organisation could do more to improve overall fire safety. Worryingly, 19% say that they don't carry out spontaneous fire evacuation drills and 17% do not make visitors aware of fire procedures.
