On the run November 1st 2009 Having trained for weeks with
a rucksack and bags of sand
Vaughan Godber, a firefighter
with County Durham and
Darlington Fire and Rescue
Service, says he found it
comparatively easy to take
part in the BUPA Great North
Run while wearing full
breathing apparatus.
Although he had run this halfmarathon
before, this was the
first time that he had worn
Draeger PSS 100 Breathing
Apparatus. raising £600 for
Children With Leukaemia.
Talking about the
experience Vaughan Godber
explains: "Aalthough the
weather was hot the BA was
comfortable to wear
throughout the 13.2-mile
duration. As part of our
training we had been steadily
increasing the weight of the
sandbags to 30lbs to match
the total weight of the BA.
The tactic obviously worked
because we even managed to
overtake a couple of other
firefighters on route. We use
Draeger BA at work so it was
familiar to us and, for that
reason, we found it very easy
to wear." More articles from Draeger Safety UK Limited: |
