Sword of Honour for health & safety leaders February 1st 2009 With more than 2
million people in
the UK affected by
illness caused at
work, today's
businesses must
place health and
safety at the very
core of their
organisation, according to
Lord McKenzie of Luton, the
Government's health and
safety minister, in his speech
at the British Safety Council's
(BSC) recent annual international
Sword of Honour
award ceremony in London.
Speaking at the event he
said that "real health and
safety culture in any
organisation can only happen
if people at the top of the
organisation believe it is the
right thing to do. We can
manage workplace risks and
manage them more effectively
if we involve every single one
of our workers".
The Sword of Honour is
given to an organisation's
specific site that has
demonstrated to an external
adjudication panel that it has
a culture of best practice for
health and safety throughout.
The site must have achieved
the maximum rating in the
BSC's Five Star Health and
Safety Management System
within the qualification
period.
Winning organisations
came from companies
including: Dry Dock World,
Dubai, Shell Explorations
Brent Delta Platform and
Affinity Healthcare. More articles from British Safety Council: |
