Top to tail safety October 1st 2008 Specialist engineering firm
Semmco has unveiled a new
tail docking system, which
has already saved UK airline
bmi the cost of a plane over
12 months of use and
improved safety for
engineers working at height.
The system, that literally
encases the aircraft tail,
consists of access steps and
a platform, enabling
engineers to work at four
different height levels, from
8 to 30ft. Built on a steel
base, the aluminium
construction of the frame
and platform makes the tail
dock light enough to be
easily manoeuvred to suit
varied maintenance
requirements.
Every year the HSE
receives about 40 reported
incidents of air transport
industry staff injuring
themselves after falling from
height , many of them
occurring in airside aircraft
maintenance, with a
significant proportion of the
most serious happening
during aircraft turnaround.
Stuart McOnie, MD,
comments "We hope that
our tail docking system an
our other aircraft access
solutions will improve these
statistics considerably and
help make such injuries a
thing of the past." More articles from Semmco: |
