Going for safety gold
December 1st 2008

McAlpine has chosen Mercian Lifting Gear's Catchfall system for the difficult task of protecting employees unloading vehicles at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

Adrian Allen, heading up the Catchfall project, comments "Just look at the variables on any major construction site; different vehicle types, load types, crane and forklift access requirements and even site surfaces, and that's before you get into the different levels of awareness between contractors and hauliers.

"Our system is basic in principal, but it does save a lot of unnecessary complication and expense." Catchfall is designed to stop a person from falling whether on, off or climbing up the load – regardless of the lorry or load type.

Bowmer & Kirkland uses three Catchfall systems at its steelwork fabrication site and believes they offer a cost-effective, immediate solution to the risk of falling from a vehicle when unloading and loading.
