Providing safe access
April 1st 2007 Safety at Height has installed a GlideLoc fall protection system for SeaGen, a 1MW tidal energy device destined for Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland. Tidal stream devices work much like submerged windmills, but are driven by flowing water rather than air. They can be installed in the sea at locations with high tidal current velocities, or in a few places with fast enough continuous ocean currents, to take energy from these huge volumes of flowing water. The GlideLoc system will provide safe and controlled access for Marine Current Turbines' staff working in areas where fall risks exist. A shock absorbing travelling device runs along the GlideLoc rail providing a strong, secure link between the user's harness and the system.
