Vehicle additions
February 1st 2008

A-Plant is enhancing the safety features on new vehicles added to its transport fleet to reduce the possibility of staff falling from height while working on the vehicles.

In future, vehicles will feature a 1m high headboard with handrails fitted which, says A-Plant, better accommodates the variation in people's height, increasing safety for all personnel when working on the vehicle.

In addition, the company has incorporated a slide-out step, which is designed to improve safety and allow easier access onto the floor of the vehicle bed if required. The step simply slides back into its socket and is secured by a springloaded bolt.

For crane vehicles, the company has designed a safe storage space for ladders.

From now on, all new APlant vehicles of 18t and above will be fitted with the new headboard and step and, where required, the ladder storage system.

A-Plant is supporting the HSE's Falls from Vehicles campaign by producing a detailed booklet, posters, signage and an informative section on its website.
