Lessons in roof safety
May 1st 2010

Safetyworks & Solutions, the safety at height specialist has provided an upgraded roof safety and access system at Sussex University.

As the University building is listed, it was essential that the specified products not only met the safety requirements, but that they were also in accordance to English Heritage guidelines. Working in conjunction with the University surveyors, SAFETYWORKS specified a range of products that would ensure safe movement around the roof enabling maintenance crews and external contractors secure access. 1500 l/m of Easyguard permanent freestanding handrails were installed to five areas.

The system was galvanized to BS/EN 1461, and was powder coated in Grey improving the longevity of the system.

Easyguard's base plates are fitted with bonded ribbed rubber mats which have a foam infill, which reduces the heat transference to the roof membrane, minimising degradation.
