No grape slip-ups
August 1st 2011

Specially modified Flexigrid matting, manufactured by Plastic Extruders, is providing an anti-fatigue and hygienic surface for fresh fruit importer and packer, Griffin & Brand.

The supplier to major supermarkets had a problem with grapes falling on to the floor, being squashed and causing a slip hazard. This was originally solved with wooden duckboards which allowed the grapes to fall through the gaps. However, the company wanted a better alternative which would be more hygienic and easier to move for cleaning.

After a detailed look at the problem, Plastic Extruders offered a solution based on a specially-modified version of its well-known slip resistant Flexigrid matting. By fabricating the matting with larger gaps in the grid, the grapes were encouraged to fall through the surface and could be easily cleaned up at the end of the day.
