Solves damp dilemma
December 1st 2005

Sika has solved a damp problem in a warehouse at British Gypsum's plant in Kirkby Thore near Penrith. A newly installed concrete floor slab contained a high level of moisture at the time a specialist surface was needed.

The specification for the 400m2 floor demanded a highly durable surface with slip-resistant properties. To achieve this and combat the moisture problem, a flooring system that included a surface mounted damp proof membrane was required.

The solution was provided by a Sikafloor system comprising Sikafloor EpoCem 81 and Sikafloor 261.

EpoCem 81 is an epoxy modified cementitious, selfsmoothing screed that is used specifically to provide a DPM to green and damp substrates.

This was laid 2mm thick then broadcast with quartz aggregate to provide the slip-resistant finish required.

The surface was then coated with Sikafloor 261 epoxy resin, providing a uniform colour and texture.
