A winner at Fratton Park
July 1st 2009

Safesite's Horizontal Lifeline system has been installed at Fratton Park, home to Portsmouth Football Club, to enable safe maintenance of the ground's match screen.

The screen is situated on the control room roof and is accessed via a scaffold ladder at the rear. Workers are normally protected by a fixed collapsible guardrail system; however, during matches and other events the front elevation guardrail has to be removed so that it does not interfere with the screen's visibility.

Consequently a safe system was required which would allow operatives to remove the guardrail and then re-install it after matches and events. Safesite's Horizontal Lifeline has been installed to vertical supporting beams with the cable visible just above the top of the screen. This allows operatives safe access to the front of the screen and continual 'hands free' fall protection throughout the length of the system.
