Brackets to meet a university challenge October 1st 2008 SGB Formwork's Multiform
rail-guided climbing brackets
are being used to create the
concrete structure of a
multi-storey development in
Leeds City centre. The £45m
project by Downing of
Liverpool for Leeds
Metropolitan University,
Broadcasting Place will
create a student village.
The brackets are used by
MPB Structures and take the
climbing formwork concept a
step further by incorporating
a guide track assembly which
is fastened to the concrete
structure. Raising the
formwork to its new position
after striking is done using a
crane or hydraulics to slide
the entire assembly up the
rails. Keeping the entire
formwork assembly linked to
the concrete via the rails
means the lifting operation
is made safer.
The system is said to be
more resilient to high winds
and a built-in ratchet
mechanism allows only
upward movement, removing
the risk of slippage or
accidental lowering. More articles from Harsco Infrastructure: |
