Economical solution
August 1st 2006

An effective and economical solution has been introduced by Safesite to the problem of using inertia/fall arrest blocks with anchorage points over a horizontal plane.

The HSE placed a warning on its website concerning the use of inertia/fall arrest blocks with an anchorage point over horizontal planes.

Safesite commissioned independent testing into the effects of steel cable, webbing and rope rubbing against different edges while arresting a fall. The results demonstrated the extend of the problem highlighted by the HSE.

Safesite says it has proven the compatibility of shock absorbing rope grab devices with 14mm twisted rope when used with the Safesite Mobile Man Anchor over horizontal planes. The company now recommends that only these devices be used with the Safesite Mobile Man Anchor.
