Incentive to improve safety training
April 1st 2008

SGB Hire and Sale has introduced a highly responsible new training initiative – the Hire Education Campaign – which has been designed to reinforce the HSE's 'Shattered Lives' promotion.

Fatalities in construction increased from 60 to 77 during 2006/07, where the single largest cause was falls from height. In addition more than 1,000 workers every month are seriously injured as a result of a slip, trip or fall at work.

Dr Elizabeth Gibby, head of the Injuries Reduction Programme, HSE said, 'Each year slips, trips and falls cost the British society nearly £811 million pounds.

But what these figures don't reflect is the extent to which these injuries affect individual workers and their families. 'Shattered Lives' will encourage people to change their attitudes: if you spot a hazard, don't assume 'somebody else will sort it out'.

As one of the UK's leading specialist in safe work at height solutions – and one of the largest access equipment suppliers – SGB is providing the incentive for its customers to provide more skills and competency training in the use of access equipment, through this new Hire Education initiative.
