Pit access solution
August 1st 2011 A new maintenance facility has been
constructed at ScotRails Shields
Depot to house and maintain the
new fleet of Class 380 Desiro electric
multiple units, as well as some of
ScotRails existing fleet.
Semmco was asked to assist in the
design of inspection pit access
platforms for Shields Depot in order
to protect maintenance workers
while walking across the pits and
working underneath the trains, or to
provide access to the front of trains
during routine maintenance work on
couplings.
Semmco supplied two types of pit
boards, a GRP version to allow safe
access across the pits at depot floor
level and an aluminium version with
hand rail and pit ladders to provide
both a working platform at coupling
height and safe access into the pit for
