SYSTEM ENSURES SAFE ACCESS TO CHIMNEY
October 1st 2005

Lifting Gear Hire has supplied safety equipment to ensure that Wilton Power Station, Teesside, complies with the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

A £20m gas turbine has been built by Aker Kvaerner for SembCorp Utilities UK at the power station. This adds a further 40MW of electricity, increases the reliability of supplies and adds to fuel flexibility and environmental efficiency.

The project included erection of a large chimney stack upon which an enclosed ladder/platform system has been installed so that regular maintenance can be carried out.

Lifting Gear Hire supplied, erected and tested a vertical fall arrest system that is designed so that there is never any circumstance under which the user would need to detach their harness from the lanyard while carrying out work on the chimney.

The flexible system can be used for a variety of applications that involve working at height.
