Work at height risk minimised
February 1st 2009

Shepherd Construction has reduced work at height risk at its Riverlights scheme by pre-planning its use of Combisafe's Steel Mesh Barrier.

Instead of fixing the barriers to the steelwork once the frame was erect, the team constructed everything on the ground before craning them into place, significantly reducing the need to work at height.

The £28m project in Derby, to construct a bus station, two hotels, bars and restaurants as part of phase one is well underway. Work started last summer and is scheduled for completion in March 2010.

Craig Gibbons, Riverlights' site manager said: "Minimising the need to work at height is a priority for us.

With some simple, pre-planning with the temporary edge protection, we significantly reduced the risk for our workers."
