Bespoke qualification launched
October 1st 2009

In an effort to reduce the number of accidents among local government staff the British Safety Council (BSC) and Neath Port Talbot County Council have joined forces to provide a bespoke Level 1 Certificate in Health and Safety at Work for employees throughout the borough Research from the Local Government Association (LGA) estimates that every local authority is losing an average of 849 days annually due to accidents involving local government staff.

Neath Port Talbot Council has around 9,000 employees with jobs ranging from teachers and street cleaners to accountants and solicitors.

Since the Level 1 certificate has been implemented, Neath Port Talbot has taken up the BSC's offer of 100 free examinations and so far 300 employees have successfully completed the qualification.

The BSC can offer bespoke solutions to other local authorities across the UK.
