Health & Safety 09 September 1st 2009 Research and experience suggest it is increasingly difficult for people to justify the
expense of travel and the time away from work for training, education or attending
exhibitions.Health and Safety 09'– North, addresses these problems through free
educational content, free entry and free parking delivered at a local venue. Health and
Safety Matters takes a closer look at what the Bolton leg of the show has to offer
One of the many advantages bought about by the online
revolution is that it has never been easier to source
products and services. All we need to do is type our
search terms into our search engine and bingo, more answers
than we could ever go through in a lifetime (the phrase 'PPE
providers' has 110,000 pages of information on Google).
However, the sheer weight of information can be overwhelming
which is where Health and Safety '09 – North can help. It has
representation from the major, established providers in virtually
every area relevant to industry, commerce and the public sector.
Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is relevant to several sectors
and the many PPE providers attending the exhibition include glove
specialists such as Ansell, Marigold Industries and BM Polyco, safety
eyewear and hearing protection providers such as Scott Health and
Safety, 3M and Moldex-Metric and work wear from the likes of
DuPont.
New technology
Some of the most advanced yet cost-effective technology for
working-environment and personal exposure monitoring will be
on show from Casella CEL. The popular personal noise dosimeter
range, 'dBadge', featuring a new entry level version plus two new
models in the CEL-200 sound level meter range will be exhibited
plus Casella will feature the recently introduced TUFF personal air
sampling pump for the assessment of workers' exposure to dust.
The CEL-600 series of colour screen, real-time octave band noise
analysers now has additional functionality, and these new products
can be integrated into Casella's Insight data management software.
Questions on the Machinery Directive?
Helping to address concerns over implications of the impending
Machinery Directive is Laidler Associates. Laidler, who will be coexhibiting
with Safety Systems Technology, part of the Laidler
Group, will be on hand to assist with questions regarding the new
Machinery Directive or the new EMC Directive, both of which
are expected to be hot topics amongst visitors. Also, visitors to the
stand will be able to pick up a free copy of A Practical Guide to
Machinery Safety or register to attend a free Machinery Directive
workshop taking place in the North West on the 17th November.
Range of advice
A number of high profile organisations and institutions also
choose to exhibit at the event and are available to offer advice on
a range of safety issues. The Health and Safety Executive will have
advisors available to handle visitor queries and The Institution of
Occupational Safety and Health will also be represented to assist
both members and non-members.
New qualifications
Additionally, The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
(CIEH) will continue to promote its first cleaning qualification at
the event. The award, the CIEH Level 2 Award in Cleaning in
Food Premises introduces candidates to the hazards associated
with this area, how to control the possible risks involved and how
to prevent harm being caused.
The qualification was created in response to industry
requirements and increasing demand from commerce to provide
Ofqual accredited qualifications and educate businesses and
personnel about cleaning in food premises. With recent research
showing that cleaning in this environment often fails to meet
acceptable standards and poor cleaning being linked to incidences
of food poisoning, it is clear there is a need for a training offering
that addresses this issue.
Runway shows
Another new element which can be seen for the first time in
Bolton, comes from Arco, supplier of workwear and workplace
safety products. The company will be celebrating its 125th
Anniversary at this year's Bolton event and as part of the
celebrations it will be featuring a series of runway shows as part of
the Arco Safety Experience on the mezzanine level at the Reebok
Stadium. At the Arco Safety Experience visitors can meet the Arco
experts to learn more about the full range of products and
services being introduced this year as part of the Arco catalogue.
