Regulations unclear at branch level
August 1st 2006

Youngman is the company behind 'The Knowledge', a one-day off-site training initiative developed in partnership with the HSE to explain how to work within the Work at Height Regulations.

The company recently commissioned an independent survey across a random sample of UK access equipment stockists to test their knowledge of the regulations.

Almost two-thirds were aware that the Regulations are in force. However, when it came to specific issues, there is cause for concern.

For example, in answer to the questions: Is there a time limit for working on ladders or steps? and Is there a link between fibre glass equipment and the new regulations?, not one respondent gave the correct answer.

Of all the branch outlets interviewed, only two had received any details about the Working at Height Regulations from their head office.
