Health & Safety '09 goes North
July 1st 2009

If you are a regular reader of HSM, enjoy its easy to read style and live within easy travelling distance of Bolton then Health and Safety 09 – North, an event that combines seminars and an exhibition is certainly worth noting in your diary. The event replicates the combination of legislative news, practical advice and new technology and service information which distinguishes the magazine, and like the magazine it's all available free of charge.

Health and Safety '09 – North sponsored by DuPont, will take place at The Reebok Stadium in Bolton on the 6th and 7th October 2009.

With a free seminar programme, free exhibition and free parking, the event enables those with a need to find the latest in health and safety information and products to do so in a time and costeffective way.

One of the main attractions is the free conference and seminar programme that includes sessions organised by the event's official educational partner, the British Safety Council (BSC). The seminar topics have been specifically chosen by BSC to provide maximum benefit to the visitor.

The educational programme includes a seminar entitled 'Helping Young People Manage the Risks That They Will Face in the workplace' presented by Neil Stone from the BSC. This seminar is particularly relevant to those that need to employ young seasonal workers such as students.

According to BSC, young people are twice as likely to have an accident at work as their adult counterparts. This seminar will survey the measures put in place by BSC, and others, to raise young peoples' awareness of the risk of injury and ill-health.

Also on the BSC's seminar programme is a presentation from Nigel Bryson of Bryson Consulting entitled 'People Support What They Help Create'. Nigel's presentation will identify the business benefits that effective workforce involvement brings to health and safety issues such as reductions in accidents and ill-health and increases in productivity or service performance. Based on case studies, the presentation will identify how effective workforce involvement can help drive continuous improvement of health and safety performance in organisations.

Another seminar which will prove useful to attend is given by Paul Clow of DuPont Safety Resources. Entitled Managing Safety - Simple Everyday Help for Managers and Supervisors seeks to give practical, every day advice for managers and supervisors working on the premise that it is easy to know in theory what you have to do to manage safety but less easy to know how to do it in practice.

Comprehensive exhibition In terms of product and service solutions the list of companies attending the exhibition is extremely impressive.

Relevant to a cross section of industries are the many providers of Personal Protection Equipment including glove specialists such as Ansell and Marigold Industries, safety eyewear providers such as Scott Health and Safety and innovative work wear from the likes of DuPont. The exhibition also boasts a good many training providers, for example Training 2000 offers courses in mechanical handling including courses on mobile access platforms, reach trucks and counterbalance trucks. For a full list of exhibitors visit: www.healthand safetyevents.co.uk A number of high profile organisations and institutions also choose to exhibit at the event and are available to offer advice on a range of safety issues. The Health and Safety Executive, as well as conducting a seminar session to provide an update on its recent Asbestos campaign, will have a team of advisors available to handle visitor queries. The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health will also be represented to assist both members and non-members.

Tim Else, event director, says of the events: "By working in partnership with the UK's leading safety suppliers and service providers, as well as the industry's most respected organisations, we are able to deliver an innovative format which is ideally suited to today's information hungry, time-poor visitor. This, combined with elements such as the free parking makes the regional Health and Safety 09 events extremely cost-effective." Registering for the events or seminars is free. Registration is via: www.healthandsafetyevents.co.uk or for those without internet access registration can be completed by calling the event helpline on: 0844 545 0046.
